Quite an interesting question and I must admit, I have not as yet encountered a fake, plated or coated on steel SA buckle.

My somewhat clumsy assessment for the humble SA buckle has always been (a) nickle silver or chrome on steel - quite rare although beloved by B u N and (b), brass or gilding on steel - very rare.

I have a grey composite metal (non magnetic) SA buckle in my collection, however this is just an oddity.

Does anyone have information, details or images of fake SA buckles (not the SA-Wehrmannschaft) which have a steel box?

    Regards,

    David

My newest buckle is this two-piece bearing what appears to be the Overhoff design.

Thanks, guys! There was a leather tab barely hanging on, and it was clear that it was added postwar, so I removed it and cleaned off some of the verdigris that was left behind on the back.
