It is a fake, sorry.
Tom
Can you post this in the fake SS thread please? As Tom has rightly stated buckle is indeed a fake
Ben
i don't like that catch or the mark. fake.
Thanks guys you are the best! Guys can some of this be original ? I knew that the catch on the back looked fake but the front is pretty detailed.
To be absolutely correct, it is not even a fake SS buckle. Instead, it is a pure fantasy and post 1945 horror in every possible way.
Regards,
David
Thanks guys, I'm glad I found this site to get all this valuable info.
David North pretty much nails it there.
There is no chance here. More is wrong than has been mentioned. Looking at the back, in originals the details of the front can be seen through the back of the buckle in much greater detail than the "mushy" appearance that you get here. It's just bad unfortunately.
Check out this view from the back side of a legitimate example:
And the buckle in question, same view from the back:
OK so other than that what else should I be looking for when buying one?
go to the relevant section and study details of original examples. then, give it your best shot as far as finding an example in which you are interested and which stacks up well with what you are seeing here.
THEN, post that example in which you are interested and see how you did.
as you already know, there are many here who'd like nothing more than to help a collector avoid an error.
you will pick things up well this way. over time.
