This one isn't giving me the "warm and fuzzies"....A reproduction in my opinion!

Is this the same buckle that recently appeared for sale within another forum?
If as I think it is, then in my opinion, the seller was correct in his description, i.e. an early nickle silver, original and rare SS buckle manufactured by and for most of use, an unknown maker.
I hold one which I think has the same obverse design and some of the reverse features.

David
Hello David! What has me concerned with the buckle is the "look" on the reverse. Could it have been repainted? The large "buttons" on the top and bottom of the prong bar also look out of place.
I'm not doubting your opinion....I'm sure you've handled quite a few more rare SS buckles than I have.....just sharing my thoughts/concerns about Slowakei's example.
All that said: your example does appear to exhibit the same prongs.
Cheers!
Rob
Yes apparent original buckle and as of yet an unkown maker, quite exciting for me, I like the thought of discovering unknown makers or finding examples of buckles that I do not have on the M4 makers list, hopefuly in time all will be revealed

Honestly Rob, I know exactly what you mean. Some of these early nickle silver SS buckles are not the most aesthetically pleasing and for some odd reason, I see quite a few that appear to have severe metal darkening and pitting, resultant of post 1945 adverse storage or holding conditions.
These ugly duckling and invariably non marked SS buckles were once automatically dismissed as fakes, however there is now a specialised appreciation. I know that there are those who now examine these SS buckles with a fine tooth comb and in order to try and establish a correlation with a known maker SS. Good luck to them.
What is immediately important I think is that this once stigmatised group of early SS buckles which once had a dubious pedigree, are now being appreciated for what they are.
Here is another one and which is quite different from the other SS buckle that I posted.

David
Thanks David! That's the great thing about forums such as this: I continue to learn!
Cheers!
