Hello I can't get the link to copy. On WFA search Croatian and you'll find the buckle. It's a large thread with 6000+ views. If someone else can link it.
The only buckle book I know that shows this buckle is the French book Gott Mit Uns by Castilla. I will take a photo of the page and add it later. I took a quick look at the book before I left the house. This is a Croatian SS buckle. This looks like it has the right catch but we really need better photos. A nice example of this buckle was on Manions 6-7 years ago. It was priced at $3000 +. I don't remember if it sold.

David so are you saying you believe the buckle shown to be an original one or acopy of an original ??

Everybody thanks for your commemnts. I personally believe it's a real one.
That buckle was dug up in the Silesia region not far from Breslau/Wroclaw.

I take it these were Croation made as the quality etc doesn't look good ?

I have no further information other than the strong suggestion that these quite peculiar and "horribly theatrical" buckles were designed and produced locally.
Again, almost impossible to believe that they are period - however they are !

The one that started the thread must be a nickle one. I think the other ones I have seen were aluminum.

David i must admit as from my first post i had this down as a modern fake and if i'd seen one somewhere i would have walked past it but we are all here to further our knowledge and i have learnt something new so it's been a good day
