BTW, I should have been more informative on your original post.
The M16 helmet ( and the M17 ) used the chinstrap that "hooked" onto the pointed posts either side of the skirt. ( M16 had leather band, M17 was steel )
The Austrian M16 used a different liner system and didn't use the "hooks" - their chinstraps attached to rivets placed up just below the liner band.
The M18 attached the chinstrap to the band itself.
and then the "transitionals" used the M31 liner assembly ( either with the M16 like yours or the M18 shell )
