Beaded helmet production........ myths & mayhem

Article about: No, I'm NOT reigniting the debate over whether or not these were MEANT to have the bead in or done to identify them as ballistic rejects - everyone has their side of the fence on that one -

In the famous Netherlands "surrender pile" photo a number of beaded helmets can be seen - can we believe these are civil or front-line troop ones?
( certainly not luftschutz as they have no decals)

The other thing I like about this photo is how we deride darkened liners as "someone has ruined it by oiling the leather" yet look at how many HAVE dark liners!!! I reckon the dirt, grease and pomade did the same job. Gee we're a fussy bunch!

I love & appreciate your red arrows. Got a small laugh out of it.
To add to your darkened liner theory that I agree with, these have been most likely sitting in the rain soaking up water that will darken them immediately also.

This is one of my favorite photos of all time. So much to see, study and dream about. Just look at all those wired, camo, para helmets as well.

David: I suspect that it is a combination of lesser steel AS WELL AS rejected helmets.

Yeah...but there was that one from a number of years ago of some guys pulling out camo M18 ECO's from a bog like pit in near perfect condition...but I will still say this is the best!
