It should be a 60 or 61 sized liner for that sized helmet

Anything 70 or above would have been a custom made helmet.

I believe there is one in Ken N's book, I'll have to double check!

Here it is, an ET 74. Notice the 9 fingers.

Wow... must have been worn by a mountain of a man. Or... a bobble-head.

As i understood it the size 70 was the largest and it was a custom made shell, ive never seen or heard of a 74, and ive not seen any references to that size in helmet books
according to the books ive read there were only 6 shell sizes that could accomodate 12 liner sizes in the m31 liner system ?

ET68 will have the 9 finger liner no problems there. The interior does look repainted and should be examined. The exterior has a chance but as has been said much better pics and less M1s and Japanese flags are required lol.

I see it but its hard to believe, surely it must be a one off as to own one would make it a very rare and collectible helmet, and just how many are there in collections, its the first one ive seen in 45yrs

I agree, Dave! These must be as rare as rocking horse.... well, you know..

Something that you might find interesting, is that the '74' stamped on the liner band has its numbers stamped individually with '7' and '4', signifying that these helmets were so rare that production of a '74' stamp was not even necessary.

Also, there is no ink stamp on the leather, as 66cm stamps were not produced.

Thanks Josh, thats an interesting ref, especially as its marked on the band as a straight forward 74 and not below that as are the other m31 systems, i would expect it to be marked as 66 or 67 liner, perhaps because it was a custom made job the liner band was as well and therefore marked that way because of the small numbers in production, imagine that in an SS m35 DD, i think poor old Doug would have a coronary
