I'm not liking this at all. Even galvanized wire will rust over time. Maybe it was put on to hold the helmet together

As for the thicker wire, it may have a chance.

    Let's wait for others...

the guy told me he cleaned it with anti rust wd40 and it still smell it a lot
that's maybe why there is no rust on it .
thank you for your input ! and yes the thicker one is more convincing

It's been pimped up with the addition of the twisted wire, it would have been best to leave it alone as i am in the belief that the thick wire that surrounds it is period. The galvanized wire is the recent addition IMHO

The deal breaker here is the fact that the reverse twist chicken wire is an American pattern and not European. As far as I know, no helmet that has this type is ever considered to have had it fitted originally.

WD-40 would not remove 70 years of rust and the chicken wire is so thin it would have disintegrated long before the thicker baling wire.

    Just my opinion...

might be worthwhile to just remove the chicken wire.

Used to mix concrete? LOL. I would get my money back if you can for the reasons already stated above.

Hi, there Is no "bedding in/correlation" from the wire to the steel. In my opinion there is absolutely no chance that this was wire placed on the helmet during the period of WWII. An old relic shell that's been played with. Leon.
