Wow if that's true I got a steal for 100~ dollars. I also need to find a way to get rid of the paint because the original paint might be well intact!
    As a re-enactor helmet I don't think it is a bad price.

While QVL/BVL might be a harder to find 'maker', I do not think they really command a big pricing premium, especially in this case since it has been reworked. This helmet (if untouched) would be most interesting to collectors looking for "variants".

    Just my opinion of course.

Agree with Luis....think an HKP with jumbled letters. Air vents look HKP & the 55xx lot # would suggest very late made, hence the lack of quality in the shell & stamp.

I don’t like the shape of the shell when viewed from above looking at the liner. Most liners and bands will have a slight oval appearance while this one is almost circular in shape.

You may be correct. It does look dubious. Also note how smooth the steel is on the dome & skirt exterior. There are no visible pitting marks or imperfections in the steel. But too hard to tell. Without handling it ....I don't know

But it does have the rippling that you sometimes see with really late war helmets.

Yes it does. And the claim it has a few layers of paint....that could explain the smooth finish to the steel.

Good point. Can't hide the ripples but extra paint and maybe some post war sanding and putty would/could potentially make the steel more smooth.

I personally can't see any original paint on it. So I would think its a ground up rework on the exterior at least.
