DD M35 Luftwaffe Helmet for Review

Posting this for Anton67. DD M35 Luft helmet.

Luft decal appears to be an NS. Unfortunately it has been de-nazified. Liner looks a little funky; not sure if it has been replaced.

Asking price is $625. Appears to be a authentic however the liner and de-nazified decal are a concern.

Good deal or should he pass?

The helmet is right, the liner string of course has been replaced the liner is good but fragile. The price to me is to high I would be in the 500.00 range. The liner may be a replacement. Marty

It is a good one but in that condition and with the denazified decal i would ask for a better price as Marty stated above

I'd be thinking around $500 max. What size is the lid? Looks like a 64?

Hi guys and thank you Eric for posting this for me.
I was at a flea market this morning and found the helmet.
Eric posted it for me since I had trouble doing so from my phone.
Anyway, yes it is a size 64.
The liner did not look replaced to me but I could be wrong.
The pins did seem a little lose.
The helmet had a dome stamp which did not come through good in my photo.

I almost bought it for $625 but I missed the forest though the tress,.
I was so excited to see a DD that I missed the fact that the swastika was taken off.
Here are 3 more photos which I believe are bigger than the ones Eric posted for me.
The guy would not come down below $625.

Unfortunately you still can not see the dome stamp.
It was dated, I believe 1938.

I know it goes against collector's urges to accept any item that has been denazified - but it may well have been done at the time by the soldier wishing to surrender " look, I'm not a Nazi", a GI bringing a trophy home & being told "get that symbol out of my house"!!! ... or a number of other scenarios.

Sure it reduces the value ( and asking price ) but for me it does not diminish its history. I like it - a nice helmet .....!!

I don't think anyone was debating whether or not it was a nice helmet.
The question really is: What is the value based on all of the above, including the fact that it has been denazified?
Like I said I was offered the lid for $625.
Did I do well to pass or did I miss an opportunity?

I wouldn't really worry too much about it. For a little over twice that amount you can buy a nicer DD Luftwaffe so I wouldn't stress about it.

You really did not miss out on much. As has been said, its real, but the liabilities outweigh the benefits in my opinion. You will be able to put that $625 towards a much nicer piece. Good luck and good hunting. Jim G.
