What can be said for the decals on this helmet? I'm told the helmet was recovered in Normandy in the early 80's yet in comparision to the shell, the decals look remarkable. I'm convinced the shell is original, What about the decals?

Decals can survive remarkably well even when the rest if the helmet is rotted to hell, however detailed close up shots of the decals will be required to make an honest opinion on your lid. Right now the SS decal looks a little weird to me but a closeup should tell the tale.
Yeah one can be surprised by how long decals can retain crisp colour.
However, close ups here are strongly needed. From what I can see, the SS runes are very messed up; it looks like someone could have taken a marker to them at some point to make it 'look better' or something. The reason i say this is because the outside of the left 'S' is very wavy-lined and smudged to a certain degree.
