Hi, here are some pictures of an M42 shell that I had acquired and which I thought was ex Czech civil defence because of the black colour (I posted the liner last week). Was I surprised when I stripped the dark paint off - I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Terry

    Hi,

I wouldn't suggest stripping a helmet this way unless you were sure it had been recently repainted (like I was). I used frequent applications of water soluble paint stripper brushed on and washed off with a sponge and water within 10-20 seconds to work through the (soft) new paint and down through the grey primer coat. Looks like they sanded the helmet before priming and painting it so this may have made it easier.

ET68 with lot nr. 5527 - the original paint is faded and appears to be light green and there don't appear to be any decals - any thoughts on its original colour and service?

The avatar is for my great uncle who served with the 15th AIF (4th Aust Division) on the western front from 1917-1918.

    Thanks

    Terry
