This was a target practice helmet like so many bullet ridden relic helmets are. There's an interesting post somewhere here or maybe GHW where a US vet spoke how they would shoot their trophy helmets and claim it as battle damage when they got them home. Remember most of these guys were just late teenagers or young adults, with guns, full of P and V, with their lives on the line, what did they care?

Shrapnel damage and concussion cracks are far more believable battle damaged helmets than bullet holed helmets, without blood staining in 95% of them I might add.

Don't let your imaginations run too wild with bullet holes boys.

As I always think, if the amount of relic German helmets that I have seen with a clean bullet hole through them are all genuine battle damage as opposed to "after the battle damage" then the Allies must have had division purely trained as snipers lol
