For the life of me I cannot locate any solid information about the helmet short of some were created for export between 1937-1939.

You're likely correct...Pre-1945 German Production for Export, in this case the label is in Spanish...drgm marked as well...

Scarcity in this case does not mean it is worth more , a lot of collectors don't collect these types.
So pinning a value on it is difficult.

To make matters worse I just took a closer look at the outside pictures and noticed that decals have been either a) painted over or b) removed.

Hi, an interesting helmet, but as mentioned, difficult to value due to what it is. It will not "fit" into most collectors want list. Leon.
