Hello, the rivet is made to look like a M35's rivet on the inside and the out side. its not the dimpled doughnut shape of a m40 vent hole.

Fascinating subjectk and great photos. It would be more helpful though if you could explain in greater detail how to spot fakes and in these particular examples, especially with the helmet covers, what gives them away as fake.

Hi Guys, have a good look around this website. The owner makes repro helmets. He goes into detail about his techniques and shows the decals he has had made. To be honest, there are much more convincing fakes out there than this, but i am sure many of you will still find it interesting and educational:

    It certainly makes interesting reading!

I've got a relic German helmet, I'm considering adding some sort of decal for display purposes.... not 100% sure! Yes I'll have a great looking 'SS' helmet, but the originality of the original helmet will have well and truely died!!

I'm swaying more to leaving it alone now after reading that back! lol

    Have a look here also.

I have an original M35 and also I restored one with e reproduction liner.

WW2 militaria collectors-War relics forum. Uniforms, Guns, helmets, battlefield archeology - merluzza's Album: German Helmets WW I and WW II era

Please reply anything on repro liners and originals you know.

I saw the where the chinstrap is fixed the repro liners often have round metal hooks while my original is not round.

Where I'm not sure ist the two rings of the liner.

In Mr. Baers book I have seen that two liner types could have been produced. One with two aluminium rings, other with outer aluminium and inner iron/steel ring?
    Who knows more about this?

    Best regards

I'm not an expert on helmets but I dont think that I've ever seen that skull decal before, so I'm guessing that it is either really rare, or just fantasy. If thats fantasy I'm sure the other decal might be a fake so personally I'd stay well clear of that helmet

    Thanks

    Danny
