Finnish/German M40

Hi, here I have an NS64 German made Finnish M40 helmet, it's painted in some grey colour and beneath that you can see some apple green. Is it possible that the Germans painted the helmets before they sent them to Finland or were all helmets unpainted?

I would imagine they left the factory painted in whatever colour was being used at the time, this grey looks like it was recently repainted to me. The liner and chinstrap look to be a civic type, possibly post war. Looks like a brick red primer underneath?

Thanks for quick answer, indeed the grey is carelessly painted with a brush and the red I think is to protect from rust?
Anyway I like it and the price on such helmet is not robber

It's stamped E127 in the neck and NS64 on the side

I'd like to see a close up of the decal, if the paint is a refurb or a restoration the decal could be suspect, that red colouration could be because it was used post war as a firemans helmet, the liner certainly looks a new addition as well as the c/strap

By 'refurbished' I mean an original shell everything else a reproduction. I don't think this helmet can be classified as a fake, since it was obviously not meant to deceive.
