It would be fine to add a chinstrap. The helme looks fine without one. Save your money towards a new helmet

Good advice from everyone here. A very nice first helmet. Beware....it will be hard to stop.

Adding a chin strap is fine. But if you ever sell it, just be honest and disclose it.

While the date on the liner band and the actual production of the helmet may differ, except for Quist (Q) maker, the date range for manufacturing of an M40 was only between a few year window (until the M42) came out)
