First Helmet Need help with liner
I just picked up my first German helmet. M40 type green rough paint stamped vent hole rolled rim w/very nice decal w/gold fleck in it. My question is on the liner. The liner and leather are very fragile because of sitting in an attic for over 40 years (admission from previous owner). Would it be advisable to find a repro or real liner to replace it? Same question for the chinstrap? Both of these parts are broken or missing parts. All hardware is there.

Re: First Helmet Need help with liner
If you at least have the remains of the original liner and chinstrap it would be better to leave them alone.

I can't see the condition, so its hard to say. Have a look at similar condition helmets on dealer websites to get some idea.

Re: First Helmet Need help with liner
Please post photos. If all is original, it is better not to add a liner unless you insist on wearing it. Even helmets with worn out liners are better than replaced liners. You could kill the value by replacing it.

You could kill the value by replacing it.
I would go further and say you WILL kill the value by replacing it.
Cheers, Ade.

Value aside it is original as it is why take it it's originality away by putting in a repro liner , that would definaely be a no no for me.

Thats an opinion that you can't argue with, and I also agree with it. An item thats untouched is worth a lot more than an item thats had original parts the replaced.
Thanks
