SA helmets were painted brown.
D'oh, I didn't notice you said it was originally green. Doug is right of course, SA are brown so chances are slim it ever was.
thanks for all the information Guys, I am grateful for all the knowledge everyone has. !! Why is it not marked at all , as per size etc as combat helmets are. I perhaps should not have used the word green , rather olive color also.
Eariler ones were stamped in metal RLM.39 ETC and had a decal inside rim destignating price in RM I have seen one piece with plastic chinstraps unmarked. A lot of collectors and reference believe these were late war. timothy
