Hi Dave, our re-enactment unit owns one of these. We use it at events. Made from an M35.

Guys i loned an ex girlfriend an m16 german helmet ,and she is using it as a hanging plant pot.It has been very successful as one ,as it had a hole in the crown which has acted as a drain.I have been trying to get it back but she refuses(women). In the book on german helmets i have it shows a picture of a guy taking out the liners of many german helmets, and then cutting them down for kitchen items. ITshows a german women cooking in one.I DONT THINK HELMET PURISTS SHOULD GET FRUSTRATED AT SOME HELMETS BEING USED THIS WAY ,AS I THINK IT IS A WAY OF SHOWING THAT SOMETHING THAT WAS USED FOR DOMINATION ,CAN BE TURNED INTO SOMETHING POSITIVE ,I THINK ITS SYMBOLIC ,especially as a plant pot.ps sorry for shouting.

Interesting thread this... Here are a couple of pictures taken in the Ardennes at the Poteau Museum. You'll notice they've actually been enameled, so perhaps a few enterprising locals set up company's to do this following the end of the war?
