Hi, I know very little about this style of helmet, but I will say that I think the small holes on either side are for state police shields to be attached through if I recall correctly. Leon.

...presumably you paid thousands for it? what provenance did it come with or what research did you do prior to purchase (just to save a lot of members rushing around here).

If it is what you've been told it is it'll be massively rare.....I can't recall seeing anything about it's sale in the press...usually such items as this, Hitlers cap, Churchill's bowler etc get quite a bit of Press coverage.....such an item would be "up there" as they say

Sadly, this isn't my field of expertise but there are plenty of TR specialists here....I'm sure they'll help you but dig out all that prep / provenance ready for when they ask...

    Good luck....I hope you're right

It seems an Austrian so called "screened vent" helmet. Made in the interbellum. CD use.

The holes could indeed (see Fallschirmjager's post) indicate Austrian Gendarmerie use.

    Cheers,
    Emile

It is not so much Himmler's personal helmet, but the so called 'Himmler Duckbill' style of helmet, which i think is early Third Reich. This helmet does look similar but i've only seen photos of them so wouldn't know for sure. The photos i have seen - the air vent lugs are always the raised type and not with the flat grill here - like Emile has pointed out.

Actually, it is not a "Himmler" helmet. It is a so called "Droop Bill" helmet. Usually these have "frankenstein" vents, the ones with the screen vents are less common. Droop Bill shells often have the maker's DRP ANG mark ear stamped on the apron, as yours has. I have attached 2 photos of a droop bill style helmet similar to yours and 2 pictures of a Himmler style helmet for comparison. Jim G.

I dug up some pictures of a droop bill with screen vents similar to yours. It should definitely highlight the differences between this shell type and the "Himmler" style shell. Jim G.
