Located this german medics helmets that has been neglected for many years. There are still hints of the red paint left and the liner is in great shape along with a stiff but in tact chinstrap. Just missing the drawstring. Just curious as to any opinions what this lid may stll be worth in this condition. Outside of not handling the helmet is there a way to prevent any more paint from flaking? Thanks for any help.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I dont know why it does not pick it up better. When standing here with it there is no doubt what the markings are. Thanks

No doubt that's a red stripe.

It looks good to me.
The paint is defintely lead based with appropriate age crackling.
I believe you found a jewel amongst the cowpies buddy.

Outdoor photos in daylight without a flash might bring up
the painted marking a bit better, but I can just make out
a Geneva Cross in the later pics.............

agreed. as said you can def see the red stripes in newer pics.Man are you lucky! I would love to find such a teasure.
