Liner question

Just noticed on my m42 helmet liner on the end of one of the fingers just below the hole where the string threads through it has be stamped/embossed with the date 1943 , not seen this before is this a common stamping . The date matches the liner band . The stamping is not ink but has been stamped using a die and has been stamped on the skin side of the leather.

It's common to find liners with date stamps, but usually they are made with ink. I recall once seeing a civilian liner with an unusual brand like date stamp, similar to the look of a chinstrap stamp.
