So could the "combat reject" tag have occurred becsuse the "flaws" that we see on this occurred during the beading process?

I always was under the opinion that these were rejects, it was just a theory I was putting out there....

Thanks for the info. Quist only made M40's right up to the end yes?
I think this one is a reject (difficult to photograph) for the reason pictured here and previously- the lip.
I don't think the bead has been confirmed as my other reference "German Helmets 1933-1945 vol II by T.V. Goodapple & W.R. Maertz state this (reject). But they are more inclined to the recognition purpose.
+ the helmet feels to be the same weight as a normal combat shell
