No mystery to any of this: they are factory rejects pure and simple. See Baer page 290.

    Cheers, Ade.

So could the "combat reject" tag have occurred becsuse the "flaws" that we see on this occurred during the beading process?

    No.

The bead was placed there to show they were rejects.

    Cheers, Ade.

I always was under the opinion that these were rejects, it was just a theory I was putting out there....

I think this one is a reject (difficult to photograph) for the reason pictured here and previously- the lip.
I don't think the bead has been confirmed as my other reference "German Helmets 1933-1945 vol II by T.V. Goodapple & W.R. Maertz state this (reject). But they are more inclined to the recognition purpose.
+ the helmet feels to be the same weight as a normal combat shell

In respect of the continual questions that are raised re why these helmets were beaded, has anyone ever bothered to measure the actual height of a beaded in relation to that of a normal helmet, by rights a beaded should be lower because of the pressure used to make the bead, but if there is no height difference once the bead has been applied then that raises a lot more questions, just a thought !!
Good point Shame I can't do a measurement as my other Quist is a 66
