Re: luftwaffe camo lid good or bad

I love that patten, and the lovely bright colours. I'm sure the soldier that wore that blended into the country side very well
Perhaps i should explain a little. Any soldier in the field will tell you that camo is used to break up the shape, and blend in the surroundings. The average tom couldn't care less about nice straight pattens gawdy colours or whether it looks right. His/her own objective is consealment, not to be seen. This helmet that started the discussion does not fit any of that criteria, in fact it serves the opposite
It never ceases to amuse me when in the "films" the wary soldiers put thick green and brown can cream all over their faces to conseal themselves. Any soldier will tell you that doing it that way you end up like one of the black and white minstrals, where your eyes stand out as white balls, and the lips fair no better. Just a smudge on the face highlights conseals and stops reflection
so whenever looking at camo helmets, remember what they were used for, consealment, not pretty pattens

That's the ugliest lid i've ever seen
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
