Well done Dave. It looks a good honest lid. So many of these camos are fake. I like the addition of the swastika. Who knows when or why this was done. I also like how the ochre paint has almost worn off, another good pointer to it being real.
Cheers, Ade.
looks like a good one, I would be really suprised if it wasnt genuine. The swastica is a bit strange though .
Thanks
Danny
I would like to know more about the swastika too.
What do you think Dave? Post WW1 Friekorps addition or a child's drawing done post WW2 to make it a "Nazi" helmet for playing in?
Also how is it done? Painted on or even drawn on?
Cheers, Ade.
The swastika wasnt only used for ww2.Polish units had regimental badges with swastikas.
Yes, indeed, Finnish Forces used it too.
Cheers, Ade.
Also a US infantry division (I forget which one) in WWI! Jim G.
Hi Ade, i personally think it was an adult that did it as they would have had to firstly go get the paint then paint it on and quite neatly ,if a kid would have done it i would have thought they would have copied a ww2 helmet and painted it on the side, so why paint on the front plus put it in a circle, its been on hell of a long time and nearly worn off in places ,apparently the freikorp did paint the swas on the front and did it backwards and forwards but this is just my opinion and i maybe wrong ,i suspose i will never know for sure, cheers Dave
Just remembered - it was the 45th infantry division that used the swastica in it's insignia until the late 1920's, and probably discarded it when the National Socialists gained power in Germany. Jim G.
