M17 with unknown decal. Help!

Guys, this walked in today. I have not got a clue what the decal remnant is, any ideas?! It's an M17 in WW1/interwar spec. The decal seems to be circular, at least roughly.

The SA used to have their round insignia on transitional helmets as i recall so you may have one of those there!! EDIT: That said i think to round SA decal was on the other side of the lid,this side would have had an eagle.

That did cross my mind but I dismissed it since the lid isn't painted brown. I'll have a poke around the web though and see if anything comes up along those lines. Cheers

Doug I think that is a likely scenario. I'll try trawling through factory logos when I get home later. By police do you mean it might be a provincial or city crest etc?

Might be Afghan badge maybe?

Afghan is a possiblility...Or perhaps Freikorps? Good luck on your quest...this one is tricky!

They also drilled holes true the metal to attache the badge.
