A recent acquisiiton, this is one of those M18 style helmets manufactured in the late '20's or early '30's. It is in pretty good shape, with an M27 commercial liner, attached with the expected hollow core rivets. The liner leather is still fairly supple and even has 2 of the 3 cushions in the pads, but the rear seam has come unstitched. Unfortunately, only part of the carbine clip chin strap assembly has survived. The Frankenstein lugs, haphazardly placed on the dome, are the elongated type seen on this style shell. These lugs appear to be for cosmetic purposes only as they are completely useless for a brow plate. The paint is about 85%. The shell was period template repainted grey and you can see some of the overspray on the leather. The combat weight shell is unmarked, but it appears to me to be a size 66. Over all a fairly representative example of a not to often encountered helmet. Hope you like it. Jim G.
