M34 - Can't make heads or tails of this

I bought this M34 really cheaply for airsoft since it more or less fits the part and as far as I can tell it's already been messed with beyond being worth anything and it came with a repo camo cover and liner, which were probably worth what I payed for the helmet anyway. The thing is, the air vents have been plugged up (which I'm sure was done for some reason or another post war by some idiot, could also just be a post war helmet that someone decided to make WW2) and it appears that another hole has been drilled around where a vent hole on an M35/40/42 would be. It also appears that someone has messed with the dips and has made them more curved as would be in an m35. Am I correct in guessing that this is what happened? If so, I'm gonna try to restore it back to a police helmet.

Sell it on as is or use it for airsoft and buy a better example, they are cheap enough and all you will do is waste money and time on it. It will always be a pigs ear and no matter what you do it will still be a pig, but with lip stick.
