M35 DD Combat Police Reissue - SE66 - Lot # 3873

Last week's other acquisition, bought at a gun show. This is an odd ball reissue, with set back decals, a configuration I have come across occasionally over the years. The decals were lacquered before the repaint, and masked off when the flat black paint was brush applied to the exterior. The interior skirt was painted up to the liner, you can see some paint on the liner band. The original pea green factory paint remains in the dome. The size 58 reinforced aluminum banded liner has some names on either side, but the ink is worn and I can't read them. The shortened chin strap is attached to the bales with odd domed rivets, but I am quite sure the strap is original to the piece. There is a neat paint run coming from the rear rivet from when the interior was template painted. An odd ball, but I like it. Hope you all do as well. Cheers, Jim G.

The only thing that bothers me about this one is that I don't own it. Indeed A LOT of character, it's a unique helmet.

So what is the go with the set-back decals? Did the person stick to the correct distance from the vent hole but just didn't know what direction from the vent hole to put them??? Maybe it was a "Friday afternoon" helmet .....
