No way is that a Kriegsmarine helmet. Nice, salty Heer, clearly. Thanks for sharing!

SE made M35 KM helmets, however. I know they made double decal helmets, but these are very rare. I owned one once that had the tricolor removed with clear remnants visible.

I also am 100% on my own lid that is a Heer.
I got a call from my scout and bought it 30 min later.
I knew it was good just hoped it to be KM.
Same sorce as my crash crew lid.

A nice DD, just like the ladies I like! I believe the national shield was removed off of lids during the late 30s. It's nice to see a survivor!

Here are a couple pictures of the adler decal on my double decal KM for comparison. Note the deep golden tone, and the raised ridge around the wings and swastika.

There are plenty of war time pictures showing DD KM helmets. I forget when the directive came that specified deletion of tricolors, but I believe it was in 1940. Pictures of the invasion of Norway and Denmark in April 1940 show KM personnel with both decals intact, anyway. Many times, they were just painted over rather than removed.

Here is a picture of Kriegsmarine personnel marching into Denmark on 9 April 1940. Note the double decaled helmets!

What can be said is that DD KM transitional helmets were pretty much phased out by 1939. And that double decaled M35 helmets were mostly modified to single decal helmets by late 1940. But clearly, some of both made it through the entire war without modification. For some reason, the Navy was better at complying with these orders than the other branches. That, plus the fact that Navy helmets are the least common of the main service branches (including SS), explains their scarcity.

Sorry to step on your thread, but I thought I would try and answer some of the questions/issues that were raised.

No step on thread. Thanks for your info and pic.
I know now it was a pre-empeted and unresearched opinion on my part.
But for the price I could not refuse....And was sold as just a german helmet...
Same picker as my Luft crash lid and SS fez and now this... All in the last month and a half.
And none has been that I have bought, Have been on the Dirty Net web.
