Looks an original shell but totally mucked with.
Probably a British chinstrap and looks like cardboard liner and silver frost paint job.
A kids creation years after the war.

Ah ok thanks dan its a mates and hes looking to sell it does it have any value?
Im new to this but as soon as i looked at it i knew there was something seriously wrong
The shell is an M35 by the looks of it. (I have corrected your thread title: it is not an M42) But it should be marked.
This will have a a small value as a restoration project.
