Dont clean it if its original to the helmet , you'll be taking the patina away

It looks to be more wear on the decals, not so much chipping. The wear on both decals seem to match well, but I'd like to see the rest of the helmet anyway. In an uncleaned state !

ok ok when I make the pix will post. so here's the back story: well it's spotty, right? I thought old yellow mud. wrong! turns out the guy as a kid 50 years ago didn't like the wartime paint and scraped most of it off. can you say, 'wuestegelb'? there I knew you could. 'I didn't know about the africa korps back then' he told me sheepishly. :---(

so I used acetone f'nail polish remover to take a little off. the next guy (I have to sell it, sadly) can do the rest or just keep as is!
