M35 or M40?

Looks like an m35 shell to me ,but would need clearer pics

Now that I can see the vent better it does look like a M35, and it seems
to be a smaller size................

Ordinary paint stripper should work fine to remove all the old paint.
You can also try paint thinner or Varsol. Nail polish remover
is pretty powerful and will remove it faster.
