Default M35 NS68 Heer grey reissue

Just got this one in. Was in a Norwegian collection for years, and I assume it was found there. An unusual reissue in a battleship grey coloration. No ID inside of the helmet, looks like it was reissued and maybe just sat on a shelf or in a depot and was never worn. The liner looks practically unused, and is still as supple as the day it was put in. Nice Pocher Heer eagle with minor dings in it, the tricolor has been painted over but is still visible in spots. Interestingly, the dome stamp is undated. The liner band is dated 1939.

Although NS did not make KM helmets as far as we know, and this decal is a Pocher Heer that is nicely toned, it does not mean that this or helmets like this were not used by the Kriegsmarine. We know they did use Heer helmets. There is ample evidence of this from identifiers in helmets and period photos. I think Pocher made KM decals. I have a KM transitional M16 with a Pocher decal that appears to be a gold foil KM decal. I have seen other KM Pocher helmets with Heer decals, however. I think those may have been lacquered over, perhaps even to make them appear gold. That might have been the case here, although we know that Heer helmets can also be light grey like this. I will post another salty Heer helmet from a coastal artillery battery in western Norway on another thread that is in a light battleship grey color.
