M40 Overpaint Heer helmet

I requested some images of the split pins and received these.

To my eyes, they look nice and straight.

In regards to the overpaint, I have been told it looks to be a factory refurbishment. The paint looks to be sprayed on as there are no brush strokes.

My knowledge on the refurbishment process is quite limited. Is it unusual that a factory refurb would only spray the outer shell? And straight over the decal?

Or could it possibly be sprayed in the field? Were spray guns used in the field? I've only ever come across field reissued helmets with heavy brushed on overpaint.

Hi, it is unusual that the factory did not "strip" the outer shell right back during the re-furb, but I have seen it before. The pins look fine to me, I would have no worries with this lid personally, but if their are any "niggles" in the back of your mind, then pass on it. Leon.

I have the helmet in hand now and am very happy with it

Not much else to add in regards to pictures except for this interesting inscription on the liner.

    I believe it reads:

"German Helmete (sic) July 30 1945"
