Re: M40 Q62 Kriegsmarine medic helmet
Yet another superb helmet. I pity the guy who had to wear it though, it's like having a big bright target on the top of your head. You are just asking to get shot!

Re: M40 Q62 Kriegsmarine medic helmet
If I am not mistaken, the Geneva convention protected medical staff as long as they were not armed or acting as combatants. This was not the case on the Russian front, where a red cross was indeed a target for Russian snipers, as Russia was not a signatory to the Geneva convention.

Correct, but the US medics/corpsman (usmc/naval medic) were armed just as the infantry were!

Medics are allowed to carry sidearms for personal protection

Corpsmen in the PTO were dealing with the same thing that Germans were in Russia - they were considered fair game by the enemy. I don't recall seeing US medics in Europe with sidearms. Just in the Pacific. As for now, since combatants are in areas where the enemy has not signed the Geneva convention, they have to be armed. German and American medics often moved freely on the battlefields in western Europe, sometimes cooperating in no mans land to tend to each others wounded. Most German medic helmets were completely white with multiple crosses, often on top, since the red cross is most evident to the enemy when the medic is looking down, facing the enemy, on the battlefield, while tending wounded.
Anyway, I am not an expert, I just have a medic helmet!
