    Default M40 Restoration!

I recently got my hands on this M40 helmet with the remains of wire camo. As you can see this helmet still has a lot of paint, a decal and a hell of a lot of rust. The first thing i want to do with this helmet is clean it with some oxalic acid ,but I've heard that it lightens the paint. If I were to put this helmet into a solution of 100g/8l would it lighten the color and damage the decal? How long should I leave it in the solution?

Are you sure that wire is original to the shell? There seems to be a Lot of rust Beneath it..

I'm sure. Here you can see that the wire is rusted into the helmet.
