Default M40 Single Decal ET 64 Helmet - Loft Find - Named

Just bought this from a friend who found it in the loft of his house.

It looks 'right' to me, but I would appreciate any input from the experts on here.

I believe it to be a totally original M40 Single Decal helmet.

As can be seen from the photos, there is still grass/dirt between the liner and the helmet shell.

Thanks in advance for any input.

    Cheers

    Greg

A true attic / basement find of the kind we see still popping up in Europe. Worse for wear but authentic. Do not clean it please or treat with chemicals.

Wow! That is a nice find. As Frank said, leave as is and preserve the patina and history. If possible can you take some outside photos. I’d love to see the decal in the daylight closeup. It has a goldfish hue which I’m sure is just toning and not a Kriegsmarine but still it would be good to see it in natural sunlight.

    Thanks for you comments.

(And to all the other guys)

I'm not going to touch it and will post some more pics, taken in daylight, if the sun ever shines again!

Unfortunately, my partner is not happy having the helmet and the huge flag in the house. (Both items were found together.)

She's fine with my guns, knives and other stuff, but feels uncomfortable with these two items, so I will be listing them both in the 'classifieds' section of this site in a couple of days, as soon as I can determine their value.

    Cheers

I understand Greg. Collecting militaria is not for everyone. If you are going to sell it, outside photos will definitely assist.

Nice looking salty helmet. The name isn't quite clear enough to read the second letter. he would appear to be something other than Erlich, which is quite an unusual name.

I would guess the name was once Ehrlich, which means honest in german.
