Looks like a Norwegian reissued dyed liner and it looks repainted to me.
don't know about the liner being Norwegian dyed. Usually they have a very dark red color. But the helmet shell has defiantly been repainted.
That's what I was thinking to but maybe it wasn't dyed much and made it light reddish like that or just really worn.
If the dye did wear away I would still expect to see a fair amount around the edges where the liner had little contact with the head. Just my opinion, makes for a nice discussion though.
I see what you mean, now that I look at it more maybe the light makes it look reddish like that? because when I look around the edges it doesn't show any signs of dying
As for the paint, I am unsure. to me it looks post war done, but I am no expert on paint. one question, are the liner pins loose on this helmet? if they are, that is an indication of the liner being replaced.
The Norwegians took out the flat German aluminium liner split pins and replaced them with domed BRASS ones after the dying process.
These are the flat alloy ones.........
