Awesome piece! Love them M42's! CKL = Eisenhuttewerke Thale. The manufacturer of the liner would be on the yhe inside of the liner ring. Use a flashlight to peek but don't take the liner out.

Nice honest looking pot, can you tell what the darker tips on the tongues of the liner leather is?

    Hi Chris,

I guess it's sweat from owner that made the liner tongues dark

    Hi Wehrmi,

your helmet is on page 150 of Brian Ice's reference book and it reads: M42 CKL66 4901 ND SLATE ZSH.
Translated: No Decal, Slate Gray Paint, Zinc band with sheepskin/goatskin.

By 1942 the chinstrap markings changed completely to a serial system that gave each firm a nine digit code that protected their location and identity. The use of these codes became standard throughout Germany as a measure of protection against Allied attacks. Name and year markings were then replaced with a designated code. This marking was known as the National Business Number (Reichsbetreibsnummer) or "RB Number." I will do some digging to see if I can get the manufacturer of your chinstrap.

Apparently the first digit represents country of manufacture, second set of digits is city. It seems that 99% of samples have the first digit as a "0", while there are numerous examples of the first digit being a "1". It gets cloudy after that. Some examples exist with a "2" and a "9", but they are usually viewed as controversial.

This is all based on info that I found on the net so pls correct me if I'm wrong.

    thx

It's likely not the same helmet in the book, thousands might have had the same lot number. Lot numbers are far from an exact science it is worth noting; two helmets sharing the same lot number might be a Luftwaffe and an SS for example.
