The chinstrap is stamped with R Larsen Berlin 1939
The chinstrap also looks like a repro with a commonly faked stamp 'R Larsen Berlin 1939'

It may smell strongly of leather?

It looks ok no smells normal but if it is a repro no problem i have enough other chinstraps to make it complete again.I like the rest of the helmet its in a good condition i think i use a breadbag strap to cover the decal.

Bread bag strap sounds like a good idea. You don't have to mess with it and also you don't have to see the shield. Let us see the results.thanks

Your chin strap was made about a month ago !!

I agree with the chinstrap being bad, a common fake stamp, too nice condition AND a '39 dated strap on an M42? It doesn't add up.

I don,t know on the outside the condition is not so good used and a littlebit dry.
The date of a strap don,t say to much because they used everything on different helmets.
But if its repro no problem i remove the strap and put a nice one on it.
