It looks ok no smells normal but if it is a repro no problem i have enough other chinstraps to make it complete again.I like the rest of the helmet its in a good condition i think i use a breadbag strap to cover the decal.
Bread bag strap sounds like a good idea. You don't have to mess with it and also you don't have to see the shield. Let us see the results.thanks
i will do that i don,t like to mess with old things you never know the results this helmet deserves a nice display.

If so no problem i remove it and i put another Original in place no problem to do.
I agree with the chinstrap being bad, a common fake stamp, too nice condition AND a '39 dated strap on an M42? It doesn't add up.
I don,t know on the outside the condition is not so good used and a littlebit dry.
The date of a strap don,t say to much because they used everything on different helmets.
But if its repro no problem i remove the strap and put a nice one on it.
