M42 Heer - ET66 - Lot# 1650 - Former Whitewash (?)

Article about: Really nice, Jim. Well done! Josh

    Default M42 Heer - ET66 - Lot# 1650 - Former Whitewash (?)

This is a pretty run of the mill M42 Heer, but I like it because it appears that it was at one time whitewashed during its combat service. There are traces of what I think is whitewash around the heads of the split pins, and in the vent holes. There are also some vertical scratches (double click on the decal shots) on the shell which I believe were the result of the soldat scraping the winter coat of whitewash off before washing the rest of it off. No chinstrap or draw string, some damage to the decal, and parts of three of the tongues of the liner are missing, but a fairly solid example overall. Hope you like it. Jim G.

You may be correct Jim. I had a M40 with similar white around the vents and pins. Not sure if it had vertical scratches. You have a very nicely used helmet. I like it.

I agree Jim that it looks as though it may have had a "winter cammo". The only thing I would maybe differ on is that it is just as likely that someone in the past 70 years wanted the original colour and decal to be seen and removed the whitewash , not necessarily the soldat! Leon.

There is lots to like about it Jim.
Ex-whitewash, great looking patina, and it has some cool combat wear for starters.
