M42 Heer Rough Texture Wood Chip

Thanks for the warm reception on an earlier posted helmet find, I would like to continue with this one.

Pulled this one from the woodwork a short while ago. Purchased it from the veteran's grandson, have the vets name but haven't researched him yet.

Took most these pictures in very bright sunlight early in the morning and the sun at a low angle.

M42 hkp 64, Lot #2104, Liner band is DRP 1940 nA 64/56

Has a rough texture over paint with visible wood chips here and there. The decal area appears to have been wiped off after the over paint and IMO doesn't look to have been "released" in hand.

The two front pins are a bit loose, but the bends look good on the inside and all washers are in place.

Has a very familiar name in the liner, but not sure where I've heard it before.

Interestingly, there is a hair or fiber coming loose from the paint on one side. It only became apparent in the very bright sun light by the shadow it casts. Looks like a half painted blond human hair under magnification.

Thats a very nice helmet and in great condition, your right that name is somewhat familiar, perhaps it was on a "Most Wanted" episode of COPS, I daresay the wearer was a very strange person and he possibly joined the SS later on in service

Wow, what a great find, that is why I love this hobby! It's encouraging to know there are still 'undiscovered' helmets like this out there

I like this helmet a lot, I wonder what knocked off that big patch of paint on the top. It had to be a pretty hard lick!

Thanks, ..........A .45 acp slug is a likely candidate. I have a factory painted M40 Luft with a dent that matches up pretty well to a .45 slug. (see pictures below)
