M42 Luftwaffe Mail Home Helmet, ET64

Article about: Found this at one of the local antique shops I frequent. It's a little worse for wear with half torn liner, missing one pin and the tip of the strap is gone but mail homes are tough to come

Hi Todd, that's a nice helmet, especially still having it's mail back "tag" still attached. I have never seen a mail back helmet from our British forces. I don't know if us brit's even did it to be honest. Maybe as we were so close to home our boys just brought them back themselves when on leave? Leon.
They just threw them across the Channel. Didn't need to be mailed.

I thought that as soon as I wrote that post! I knew it wouldn't be long until someone made that comment

Love these with the personal touches! Nice one. Regarding the 1000 post helmet, if it is in the States, I wouldn't mind adding my John Hancock! Best regards, Jim G.

Must have a mail home in your collection, I agree. That's a nice one Todd.

Thanks, Doug. I used the money I didn't spend on that screamer of an M42 police lid that you snagged.

Nice find Todd, WWII mail homes are not common at all, especially with the label affixed to the helmet, very cool. Ron R had a few I got to get a good look at in early June, but they are not something one comes across often at all.

If that 1000 post helmet is on the US east coast, I wouldn't mind signing it myself.
    Regards,
    John
