I think brushing the exterior rust spots with a soft brush followed by Renaissance wax to seal it off would be the least intrusive way to go --- at least that's what I would have done. Good luck, please show us the results if you decide to go ahead

Thanks for the response. The first thing I will do is photograph it better when it arrives. I hope when I get it in hand that it is 100% correct. That will determine what I do with it.
