Looks like the first variant of the NVA's M56, before they implemented the "paratrooper" chinstrap, though it is also possible it is from 1945.

No, that is a miserably bad lazy job, covered by pouring acid everywhere, and stock DDR chinstrap loops. Refer to my carefully copied chinstrap hangers, they are careful copies of m44 one, they are like no others.

Maybe a cover on a regular helmet , I am not a believer. Makes no sense in sept 44.
