And that's why I was excited to see this was an ET68. I have one or two 66's, but no 68. Maybe I'll get lucky and run into a 70 sometime.

So the rivets are a little loose, and so one of the liner tongues
is ripped - So what - I'd take this helmet any day.........!

Unfortunately, three of the liner tongue tips are completely separated, it just didnt show in the pics. The drawstring keeps it all together. Other than that, it's a great example of a worn M40 combat helmet. The man I bought it from said he had considered gluing the leather tips back together . He got an education about NOT doing that, EVER. He got the point.

Hi William,

The rivets usually come loose through being worn, especially in combat conditions, where the
owner/wearer might be trying to keep out of harms way by pushing up hard against a wall or side of a foxhole etc.
With the liner being forced around inside the shell, stretching and pulling on them.
At least that is how I imagine it to occur.

I agree with Brad - if you look at a rivet itself, it is quite flexible. Needs to be to be threaded through the washer & bent over in the little available space. Being flexible as Brad says, the rigors of use stress them and they can ( not always ) flex back and loosen up.
